Description

Soldiers preparing to board HMAT Nestor (A71) in Liverpool bound for Australia. Visible, wearing a slouch hat and holding his kit bag in his right hand, is 371 Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS) John Boyle MSM, 10th Battalion. He was awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) in 1918 for his efficiency as a Company Quartermaster Sergeant. RQMS Boyle was returning to Australia having served overseas since 1914.
