Rear of a building with parked United Nations ambulances and vehicles . This image relates to Captain Lewis Maceio, a senior nursing officer with Australian Medical Support Force (AUS MED). Maceio was awarded the Nursing Service Cross for his service in Rwanda and the citation reads 'For outstanding devotion and competency in the performance of nursing duties as the Operating Theatre Nursing Officer while serving with the Australian Medical Support Force in Rwanda'. AUS MED's initial task was to provide care to United Nations (UN) troops and UN Assistance Mission employees. AUS MED also assisted the local population, treating gunshot wounds, machete wounds, mine injuries and road trauma cases.
