Studio portrait of 6291 Private (Pte) Charles Birch, 15th Battalion. A farmer from Kingaroy, Queensland prior to enlistment, Pte Birch was originally assigned to the 23rd Reinforcements, but later embarked with the 18th Reinforcements, 26th Battalion from Sydney on HMAT Demosthenes on 23 December 1916. Later wounded in action on two separate occasions, he returned to Australia on 25 January 1919. This image is from the collection of 507 Pte John Thomas Frederickson, 2nd Machine Gun Company.
