Studio portrait of 313 Private (Pte) John Allen (Jack) Watters, 41st Battalion. A labourer from Cairns, Queensland prior to enlistment, Pte Watters embarked with A Company from Sydney on HMAT Demosthenes on 18 May 1916. Whilst serving in Belgium he was killed in action on 5 October 1917, aged 23, and buried near where he fell. Following the Armistice his remains could not be recovered and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. This image is from the collection of 507 Pte John Thomas Frederickson, 2nd Machine Gun Company.
