Studio portrait of 313 Private (Pte) John Allen (Jack) Watters, 41st Battalion. A labourer from Cairns, Queensland prior to enlistment, Pte Watters embarked with A Company from Sydney on HMAT Demosthenes on 18 May 1916. Whilst serving in Belgium he was killed in action on 5 October 1917, aged 23, and buried near where he fell. Following the Armistice his remains could not be recovered and he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
