Studio portrait of Ruby Fitzgerald wearing the uniform of the Women’s Emergency Signalling Corps (WESC). Believed to be WR/33 Gwendoline Ruby Fitzgerald from Sydney, NSW, she served in the Women’s Royal Australian Naval Service (WRANS) from 27 December 1941 until 22 February 1946 when she finished her service as a Petty Officer Wran Telegraphist. One in a series of portraits of early members of the WESC, many of whom became WRANS. The album of portraits was compiled by Mrs Florence Violet McKenzie OBE, founder of WESC, which trained Signallers and Telegraphists.
