Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX64900 (Q302572) Lieutenant Noel Joseph Lyons, Headquarters New Guinea Force, Second Australian Imperial Force, New Guinea and Japan, 1941-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one Christmas card and five postcards relating to Lieutenant Noel Joseph Lyons. The Christmas card was sent by Lieutenant Lyons to his sweetheart’s parents (future parents-in-law), Mr William John Wieland and Mrs Margaret Lindsay Wieland, while he was serving in Rabaul in late 1941. The postcards were sent by Lieutenant Lyons to his sweetheart (future wife), Miss Anne Russell Wieland. They were written between April 1944 and May 1945, while he was held a prisoner of war in Zentsuji Prisoner of War Camp, Japan. In his postcards, Lieutenant Lyons writes about receiving mail from home, celebrating Miss Wieland’s birthday, and thinking of his sweetheart and family. He also responds to news from home and sends his love.
