Description
Studio portrait of 1172 Private (Pte) Wilfred John "Wif" Counsel, H Company, 15th Battalion (right) and an unidentified soldier. A farmer prior to enlistment of Branxholm, Tasmania, he embarked on 22 December 1914 aboard HMAT Ceramic A40. Subsequently promoted to Sergeant, he later was a member of the 4th Machine Gun Company. Sgt Counsel was killed in action at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917.
