Studio portrait of 95 Private (Pte) Alexander Hood, 28th Battalion, with his brother, James Hood. A school teacher prior to enlistment, Pte Hood embarked for overseas service aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 12 July 1915. He served at Gallipoli and was sent to France in March 1916. On 29 July 1916, Pte Hood was serving as a Lance Corporal during the battle of Pozières when he was killed in action, aged 21 years.
