Wooden Poppy's bar sign : Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan
Description
Rectangular shaped weather worn wooden sign with 'POPPY'S' impressed in large text. The text has been filled in with black ink. Some partial remains of varnish are existant on the sides of the sign. A pair of 5mm diameter holes located one before and one after the title, have been drilled through the wood for mounting the sign outdoors. A metal phillips head mounting screw is still inside each drilled hole.
History / Summary
This sign was made in Afghanistan and mounted outside the 'Poppy's' bar at Tarin Kowt, Uruzghan Province, Afghanistan. When the Australian Defence Force vacated the location in 2013, the sign was demounted and presented to the Australian War Memorial.
