The opening of the Erina War Memorial on Sunday 11 November, 1923. According to an article published in the the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday 19 November, the memorial was "unveiled by Colonel Vernon DSO in the presence of about a thousand people". Identified back row, standing left, is Walter Herbert Weiss, Principal of Erina Public School, whose sons 11147 Bombardier Erle Victor Weiss and 3578A Private Frederick Alfred Weiss were killed in the war and commemorated on the Memorial. A third son, NX36483 Private Harry Blanch Weiss, died as a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Thailand in the Second World War.
