Friends and relatives farewell troops leaving Port Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire and HMAT Wiltshire. Aboard the Shropshire is 1277 Gunner (Gnr) Brian Lyall who embarked with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. While serving with the 6th Australian Field Artillery Battery, he died of wounds at Gallipoli on 1 December 1915. This image is from a collection of pre-embarkation photographs taken by Hilda Lyall (nee Maxwell), the wife of Brian's brother William.
