Description
Informal portrait of an unidentified soldier in front of kitbags at Broadmeadows camp. This image is from a collection of pre-embarkation photographs taken by Hilda Lyall (nee Maxwell). Hilda was the sister in law of 1277 Gunner (Gnr) Brian Lyall. Family members and friends visited the camp to farewell Brian and Hilda took the opportunity to photograph soldiers in the camp. Gnr Brian Lyall embarked with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade from Melbourne on 20 October 1914. Hilda's husband William enlisted in 1915 and Hilda took photographs at Seymour camp prior to his embarkation.
