Palm Island. Ship's crew of HMAS Hobart drawing horses for the Melbourne Cup sweep on the quarterdeck. Several men in the foreground have dressed up in top hats for the festivities and a sign behind them reads "I Rookem, Bookmaker". "The Governor" in top hat draws the first ticket as Captain Showers, Ship's Captain (left) and Admiral Crutchley (right) verify the proceedings.
