Description

Outdoor portrait of Corporal Alan Thorne taken by Kenneth Mortimer, a fellow graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon. Alan Thorne graduated as a Lieutenant and enlisted in the AIF in November 1914. Lieutenant Thorne embarked with the Machine Gun Section, 7th Light Horse, from Sydney aboard HMAT Ajana (A31) on 19 December 1914. He was killed in action at Ryries's Post, Gallipoli on 27 July 1915, aged 20. The portrait was probably taken at Duntroon. Mortimer was an enthusiastic member of the Duntroon Photographic Club.
