The men are wearing FA shoulder titles, bandoliers and spurs, and are carrying riding crops. Their hats are adorned with emu plumes and the letter Q on the puggarees. Most of these men served with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. All the identified soldiers survived the war. Gnr Lavarack who also served in the Second World War was the brother of Lieutenant General Sir John Lavarack, an Australian Army officer during both World Wars after whom Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, Queensland, is named.
