Studio portrait of 4770 Private (Pte) Downie Dodd, 56th Battalion. Pte Dodd embarked with the 4th Battalion at Sydney in March 1916 and was transferred to the 56th Battalion the following month. He was killed in action during the Battle of Fromelles on 20 July 1916. Initially posted as Missing, Pte Dodd's identity disc was returned by German authorities in June 1917, who attested to his death.
