Studio portrait of 1090 Private (later Sergeant) James Gordon, 3rd Battalion, of Tempe, NSW. Son of James and Eleanor Frances Gordon of Erskineville, NSW. A student prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October, 1914. He was killed in action on 22 July, 1916 at Pozieres, France, aged 21.
