Grieve, Robert Cuthbert (Private, b.1894 - d.?)
Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 191 Private Robert Cuthbert Grieve, 1 Division Signals. Collection consists of an original handwritten 1915 pocket diary kept by Pte Grieve. The diary commences with his embarkation on 20 March 1915 from Melbourne onboard HMAT Shropshire. It contains entries up until 18 April 1915, and then only spasmodic entries for the remainder of the year. Some entries appear to have been written in subsequent years. It also contains several names and addresses and other jottings. Some pages have been torn out, others are torn. Grieve was awarded the Military Medal for service in France. He survived the war and returned to Australia in 1919.
