Australian Commonwealth medallion : 'One Nation One People One Destiny'
Silver Federation medallion - the reverse side features the British and Australian flags crossed, surmounted by the Queen's crown and the quartered shield of the British Coat of Arms, all bordered by the motto “ONE NATION ONE PEOPLE ONE DESTINY”. At the base of this design is the designer’s initials ‘A.H.W.'. The obverse features the Australian Commonwealth coat of arms, surmounted by a Rising Sun, and surrounded by the five State Coats of arms, each accompanied by the state name. These are joined by a decorative ribbon pattern. This design is bordered by the words “THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH”.
Silver medallion issued in 1901 to commemorate Australian Federation. It uses Alfred Deakin’s words to promote the concept of Federation - ‘One Nation. One People. One Destiny’ - as its motto. This phrase was also commonly used in street decorations, badges and souvenirs celebrating the event, and can even been found in contemporary prayers.
