Ellis, John Frederick Alexander (Flight Lieutenant, b.1922 - d.1974)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 408676 Flight Lieutenant John Frederick Alexander Ellis, 450 Squadron, RAAF. Ellis served in the Middle East, then took part in the invasions of Sicily and Italy. He survived the war.
Collection consists of an unofficial 'blood chit'. This is a piece of paper typed up in Serbian which calls for all assistance from the Yugoslav partisans if the Australian pilot bearing this note is shot down over Yugoslavia. It was to be kept in the pilot's pocket in case it was needed. Also included is a handwritten translation which reads: 'The bearer of this certificate is F/O J F Ellis. We ask all authorities of the Partisan Forces and National Liberation Forces of Jugoslavia to render all possible assistance, should the need arise and the present him to the highest authorities. Death to Fascism - Freedom to the people. On behalf of the Military Delegation of the New Liberation Forces. Vlado Velebit' (codename).
