Collection relating to the First World War service of brothers 4054 Sergeant Joseph McSweeney DCM and 4049 Lance Corporal Michael Eugene McSweeney, 3 Light Trench Mortar Battery, Ceylon, Egypt, France, 1915-1918.

Wallet 1 of 1 - consists of 20 postcards Joseph and Michael McSweeney sent to their sister May between January 1915 and April 1918. Some of the postcards are written as a series, almost like a letter. The postcards include details on the voyage from Australia, leave in Kandy in Ceylon, training in the Egyptian desert, trips to Cairo, the pyramids and the Sphinx, and the busy nature of their work in France while serving on the Western Front.
