Letter from Henry George (Harry) Whiting to Hilda Prowse, 17 April 1919
Description
Letter relating to the First World War service of 4930 Private Henry George (Harry) Whiting, Graves Registration Unit. This handwritten letter, written by Whiting and addressed to Hilda Prowse, is dated 17 April 1919 and was written from Villers-Bretonneux. The letter vividly describes Whiting's work with the Graves Registration Unit at the end of the war, where he and two of his brothers (Mervyn and Stanley) volunteered to help exhume, identify and rebury soldiers killed in France. In the letter, Private Whiting also expresses his hopes he has done all in his power to see that his brother Walter and cousin Henry were properly buried.
