Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX30008 Private Douglas John May, 22 Infantry Brigade Group Ordnance Workshop, Singapore and Borneo, 1942.

Collection consists of two prisoner of war postcards from Private May to his fiancée, Miss Margaret Russell. Private May was a prisoner of war of the Japanese. After being interned at Changi Camp in Singapore, he was transported to Sandakan Camp in north Borneo, arriving on 18 July 1942. Private May died of illness on 3 August 1945, while still a prisoner.

Collection contains:
1x Postcard from Private May to Miss Russell, sent from Changi Camp, dated 20 June 1942. In this postcard, he assures his fiancée that he is in good health, and requests that she gives his regards to his mother.
1x Postcard from Private May to Miss Russell, sent from Sandakan Camp, [date unknown]. In this postcard, he reports that he had received letters from her, that he is well, and that he longs to be with her.
