Description

Album relating to 6874 Private (Pte) Francis William Roberts, 21st Battalion, of Upper Hawthorn, Victoria. An orchardist prior to enlistment, Pte Roberts embarked with the 19th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 11 May 1917. He was killed in action on the 1 September 1918. This album was sent to Pte Francis from J.G.R in April 1917 in France. The album was recovered by Offical War artist Web Gilbert and was then returned home to Australia via. Album of 14 pages containing 21 black and white photographs of 6874 Francis (Frank) William Roberts and family, four of which are loose and catalogued as P11794.001.001-.004. These are:
