Description

Minister for Navy, Joseph Cook boarding HMAS Australia when it was in Portsmouth awaiting a refit.

The following was written on the verso by Dr Guy Lendon, Surgeon Lieutenant on HMAS Australia:
"Joe Cook got pretty drunk at the subsequent lunch and coming out on deck, into the cold air was almost too much for him! He heard the men tittering, and to carry it off, approached the nearest man, a stoker, plucked at his badge on his sleeve, ie. a 3 bladed propellor, saying "well done" my man, and where did you win this decoration?" I was quite close, and heard him say it."
