Informal group portrait of soldiers of 12th Battalion. Identified, centre, back row is Private (Pte) Henry George James, who was killed in action on 3 September 1916. The two soldiers flanking Pte James are unidentified. Left to right, front row, is: 3579 Pte Alfred Nichols, who died of wounds on 1 November 1917; 3594 Pte Arthur Hay Smith; unidentified; 3592 Pte William Shelton and 3614 Pte Oscar McGregor Oldham, who died of wounds 2 June 1918.
