Studio portrait of 413275 Flight Lieutenant John Douglas 'Jack' Stubbs RAAF, No. 168 Squadron RAF. A butter maker from Canowindra, NSW, Stubbs was posted to No. 168 Squadron in January 1943, which was engaged in photographic reconnaissance and ground attack operations over France. In August 1944 Stubbs was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his effectiveness in these operations, which included missions in support of the D-Day landings. On 2 January 1945 he was killed in an aircraft accident at his squadron's base at Eindhoven in the Netherlands, and is buried at the Eindhoven (Woensel) General Cemetery.
