81 Staff Sergeant Major (SSM) William Hopkin 'Hop' James, 1st Light Horse Regiment, with his horse. SSM James was promoted to Lieutenant (Lt) in October 1916 and was awarded the Military Cross in 1918. He also served during the Second World War as a Colonel with 16 Australian Motor Regiment under the service number N7907.
