This photograph is from an abum of 59 photographs relating to 578 Private Reginald (Tim) Black's service in Gallipoli. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 26 February 1916. Lt Black of Sydney was 28 years old when he enlisted on 4 December 1914. After training at Holsworthy Camp in Liverpool NSW, he embarked on HMAT Suevic A29 on 21 December 1914. He joined the 6th Light Horse Regiment and served in Gallipoli from 15 May 1915 and in Maadi in the Middle East from 26 February 1916. He was Mentioned in Despatches on 6 July 1917 before being seriously wounded in the chest in August 1917. He died in hospital in Rafa, Palestine, on 19 August 1917. Lt Black was awarded the military cross for gallantry in action.
