Description
1656 Gunner (Gnr) Joseph Rusten (seated at front) and 1654 Gnr John Wright Rusten posing on a camel with the Sphinx and a pyramid in the background, Cairo, Egypt. Joseph and John Rusten enlisted at Lithgow in August 1915 along with their brother 1655 Gnr William Rusten; the three brothers all served with the 13th Field Artillery Brigade. A fourth brother 524 Private Albert Patrick Rusten enlisted at a later date and served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment. Gnr John Rusten died as a result of concussion on 10 July 1918 at the 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, France. His brothers Joseph, William and Albert all returned to Australia in 1919.
