Leonard, Henry Goldsmith (Lieutenant, b.1887 - d.1940)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Henry Goldsmith Leonard, Royal Naval Reserve. Collection consists of a leather-bound album with gold finishing containing photographs (including 3 loose photographs), autographs, and sketches, kept by Lieutenant Henry Goldsmith Leonard; 'Certificate obtained in Gunnery by RNR Officers', 7 January 1916; Letter of appointment to the Royal Naval Reserve, 1915; Receipt note from the HMS Orotava; three conduct and service notification from the Royal Naval Reserve, and 'Story of Arlanza', by HG Leonard.
Also included in the collection are documents relating to Leonard's time as a Merchant Mariner before and after the First World War. These documents include: A 'Continuous Certificate of Discharge'; a 'Certificate of Competency as Master', 1913 and a one page article written about H.G. Leonard from 'The Marine Magazine, 16 November 1914' both of which were previously stored within a certificate tin; coach ticket; three letters from Shell-Mex and BP Ltd regarding employment 1934-1938; a letter regarding a registration certificate, 1939; an envelope annotated 'Naval' and 20 letters of reference, with covering note for HG Leonard dating between 1912 and 1938.
