Portrait of 1453 Private (Pte) Harry Newhouse. Pte Newhouse enlisted in Sydney on 7 January 1915 aged 19 years and 4 months. He served with B Company of the 4th Battalion at Gallipoli, where he became deaf in May 1915. He then caught influenza and malaria and was invalided home in 1916 and discharged from the military in 1922. His brother, 1415 Private George Newhouse was killed at Gallipoli on 2 May 1915.
