Description
Studio portrait of NX3543 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Trevor Donald Monro, 6th Division Engineers, writing a letter at a desk set up with a pen and inkwells. L Cpl Monro was captured on Crete and interned as a prisoner of war (POW) in a stalag in the Hohlach area, Germany. Daily he was transported to a farm to work, where he was befriended by a German family. As they had difficulties with the pronunciation of Trevor they called him August. A letter written by the German couple to Trevor Monro in 1949 is held by the Australian War Memorial.
