Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of WX8845 Private (Pte) Douglas Haig Waters, 2/6 Field Park Coy, who was prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese from 1942 until 1945. Comprises six original letters (and typed transcripts) written by Pte Waters to his mother and brother, Maurice, from Malaya in 1941 and early 1942, two letters (and typescripts) written to Pte Waters from his mother and his wife and son whilst a POW, and one letter (and typescript) of a letter written by Pte Waters to his mother from the POW Reception Unit, Bangalore, after liberation. Also includes black and white photocopies of his service records, a typed page titled 'Eulogy, Douglas Haig Waters 1918-1998', and a copy of a photograph of Pte Waters in uniform.
