Original grave of 402529 Pilot Officer Alexander Roy Macpherson RAAF, at Makassar War Cemetery. Alexander Macpherson enlisted on 16 September 1940 and later served with No. 30 Squadron. With the rank of Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt), he was killed during operations over the Celebes, Netherlands East Indies, on his 31st birthday, 6 December 1944. In 1961 at the request of the Indonesian Government, 503 bodies interred at Makassar Cemetery (including that of Flt Lt Macpherson), were re-interred at Ambon War Cemetery. On the back of this photograph is an official sticker of the Directorate of War Graves Services, stating "Owing to demobilization of the Forces it will not be possible for this Directorate to undertake repeat orders, therefore the negative of the photograph is enclosed herewith to permit of you making private arrangements for any additional copies you may desire."
