Studio portrait of 2700 Private (Pte) Francis Henry Murphy, 8th Australian Machine Gun Company, of Marrickville, NSW. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Murphy embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 9 April 1916. He was killed in action on 25 September 1917 in Belgium.
