2/17th Battalion Memorial Card, entitled "Remember Tobruch", containing a photograph of the Tobruk Memorial and one of the grave headstone of Sergeant Francis George Clark DCM MM. A plumber prior to enlistment on 16 February 1916, Private, later Sergeant Clark was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) and Military Medal (MM) during his service in the First World War. He enlisted in the Second World War with the service number NX17124 and served with the 2/17th Battalion. Sergeant Francis George Clark DCM MM was killed in action at Tobruk on 7 June 1941, aged 49. A handwritten inscription on the verso of the card states "Your dead, but mine too. After sunset on that last night I went alone to their graves to say good-bye. The guns were still, the sky clear and the cool of the night close at hand. They lay in peace for their long "stand-down". Lt Col John Crawford. Comd. 2/17 Aust. Inf. Bn." See also P12399.003.
