Brendan O'Sullivan interviewed for the documentary "Hell No We Won't Go"
Brendon O’Sullivan (DOB 1950) was from an Irish Catholic family, originally from the country but living in Kew, Prime Minister Menzies’ electorate when he was born. His father, a World War 2 veteran ran a milk bar there and was presented by Menzies with a bottle of Brandy to celebrate Brendon’s birth. O’Sullivan did well at his Catholic school where was head prefect and in 1969 obtained a teachers scholarship to attend Monash University. At Monash he was swept up in the youth culture and the spirit of the anti-war movement. When he deliberately Ignored his registration order and the police came to his parents’ door, he dropped out and went up into the Dandenong hills to help form a community. After some time, unable to hurt his parents further and being a genuine pacifist, he agreed to go along with their plea to register as a conscientious objector. He suffered from this experience which he feels made him an outcast. (Description provided by interviewer).
