Studio portrait of pilot 404228 Flight Sergeant (later Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt)) Roy McDowell Beattie DFC, No. 24 Squadron, RAAF. Flt Lt Beattie was killed in air operations over Borneo on 2 July 1945.
This photograph was enclosed in a collection of letters written to the family of 430751 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Arthur James Hogg, by the parents of the other members of the flight crew killed when their aircraft, Liberator A72-64, was hit by enemy fire and crashed near Balikpapan, Borneo, on 2 July 1945. The photograph is housed in a card and was enclosed in a letter from Mrs Beattie to Mr Hogg 22 Oct 1945.
