British War Medal : Corporal G M Clark, 4 Ordnance Stores Company
Description
British War Medal 1939-1945. Impressed around edge with recipient's details.
History / Summary
British War Medal issued to V6611 Corporal George Clark, born Scotland on 3 April 1900. He enlisted in Victoria on 8 October 1940 aged over 40, and served in Australia with 4 Ordnance Stores Company. He died of illness on 18 March 1943 and is buried at Springfield War Cemetery, Victoria.
His son knows no more than this - his mother refused to talk about the circumstances of his death.
Judging from his service number, Corporal Clark may have served in New Guinea, but, as there are no Stars in his medal group, is more likely to have stayed in Australia – the knowledge from his family is that he died “in camp”.
