Description

This series contains both the registered and unregistered files of Headquarters ANZUK Force administration aspects. The registered files are arranged in accordance with the standard three number system of subject classification used by the Department of the Army at the time the files were created.

The unregistered material has been arranged and a form of control imposed upon the items. A listing of both registered and unregistered material is available.

The series commenced with the raising of Headquarters ANZUK Force on 31 August 1971 and was concluded with the withdrawal of the Australian element of ANZUK Force and the corresponding disestablishment of ANZUK Force in January 1975.

The ANZUK administration was the successor to the FARELF administration with the functions and responsibilities of Headquarters AAF FARELF being passed on to Headquarters ANZUK Force.
Headquarters ANZUK Force was structured and operated as an integrated Force headquarters with adequate legal, financial and administrative staff to command and control all aspects of Force activities. Under the control of Headquarters ANZUK Force were four integrated Force units:

1. 9 ANZUK Signal Regiment
2. Intelligence and Security Unit
3. 65 Ground Liaison Section
4. ANZUK Traffic Management Agency (ATMA)

The three service headquarters and ANZUK Support Group were also under the control of Headquarters ANZUK Force.

Headquarters ANZUK Force was composed of eight staff branches the records of which are contained in the series AWM206, Records of Headquarters ANZUK (Australia New Zealand United Kingdom) Force. The method of control used for these records (ie of staff branches) is different from that utilised for the purely administrative records. (For further information see AWM206 Series description.)

Headquarters ANZUK Force, Headquarters ANZUK Support Group, ANZUK Intelligence and Security Unit and ATMA Transport Control and Co-ordination Office were amalgamated in December 1973 to form a new Headquarters ANZUK Force. Certain folios have the ANZUK Support Group registry stamp as the registries of Headquarters ANZUK Force and Headquarters ANZUK Support Group were amalgamated progressively between December 1973 and January 1974.

On 1 January 1975 ANZUK Force disbanded with many of its functions being passed on to the national commands.

Topics covered by the registered files include accidents, accommodation, education, examinations, finance, losses, visits and supply. These files represent the administrative details and arrangements necessary for the maintenance and control of the ANZUK Force, a control exercised through Headquarters ANZUK Force.

The unregistered files include Reports on Planning Conferences, Reports of the ANZUK Planning Group, Joint Services Staff Manuals, information on cost sharing and press releases.
