Black and white group portrait depicting crew photographs of H.M.A.S. Encounter
Description
21 photographs relating to the service of 5491 Ordinary Seaman (OS) (later Able Seaman) Herbert Cheal Cooper. OS Cooper served aboard HMAS Encounter between November 1916 and April 1917. The majority of photographs constitue "crossing of the line" group portraits taken to commemorate servicemen crossing the equator for the first time. One group portrait depicts the Harefield Picquet outside the 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, England on 20 June 1916, and identifies 1530 Private Horace William Cooper, back row, 6th from left.
