Description

Informal outdoor portrait of officers of the 38th Battalion. Identified left to right, back row: Lieutenant (Lt) Norman William West Sandiford, Lt Alan Newcombe Hyett, Lt John Wilson Angus and Lt Henry Crisfield. Front row: Captain (Capt) Ernest William "Latch" Latchford, Capt Edmund Fox Moore and Lt William Henry Orchard. Lt Alan Newcombe Hyett was killed in action on 2 June 1917 at Ploegsteert, Belgium, aged 26 and is buried at the Strand Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert. Captain Moore was killed in action on 4 October 1917 at Passchendaele, aged 33 and has no known grave.
