Studio photograph of 2369 Corporal (Cpl) Charles Lesley Tasman Hey, 24th Battalion, of Devonport, Tasmania. Cpl Hey was killed in action on 8 October 1917 aged 24 and has no known grave. His brother, 7016 Private Ernest Victor Hey was also killed, four days previously, on 4 October 1917, aged 29. Both men are commemorated at the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. A third brother, 451 Private (Pte) George Herbert Hey, 12th Battalion, survived the war, having being wounded at the Gallipoli Landing, the Battle of Lone Pine and the Western Front. A fourth, 3264 Pte Clarence Devonport Hey, 40th Battalion, enlisted in 1916 aged 26 and returned to Australia in 1919.
