B&W photograph relating to 17317 Sgt Rex Hazelwood
Description
Portrait of Sgt Hazelwood wearing a gas mask. An inscription on the reverse reads "My dear Miss Kendall, just a brief acknowledgement of some more of your ever welcome letters. I am writing this during a short wait before entraining for Folkstone & thence to France. This is yours truly in a gas helmet. The other one seen haning in front is known as a box respirator. The white & blue armlets are the badge of the Signal service & allow members of that unit free passage anywhere without being delayed by questions or demands for proof of identity...".
