Brown cloth-bound album containing 54 prints over 24 pages. Insribed in green pencil on inner cover is 'English snaps 19148-1918 War. F. Wilkinson Sergt. 360 B.Coy. 31 BTN'. Album was compiled by 360 Sergeant (Sgt) Francis (Frank) Theodore Wilkinson, 31st Battalion. Sgt Wilkinson enlisted as a Private in June 1915 and embarked as a Corporal (Cpl) in November. Shortly after arriving in Egypt, Cpl Wilkinson was promoted to Sgt. He and his unit arrived in France on 23 June 1916, and proceeded to their billets at Morbecque, around 30 kilometres from the enemy held village of Fromelles, arriving three days later. Sgt Wilkinson was wounded at the battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916. Evacuated to England, he did not rejoin his battalion until September 1917. He returned to Australia in early 1919 and served again in the Second World War. The camera used by Sgt Wilkinson during his service is held at REL50406.
