Outdoor group portrait of sergeants, some members of the 31st Battalion. The image is signed on the reverse by the following soldiers: Temporary Sergeant (Sgt) R Rowland (3624 Corporal Reginald Rowland, killed in action 26 September 1917); Sgt Sydney F Wood (possibly 3755 Sydney Francis Wood, died whilst prisoner of war 28 April 1918); Sgt James V Keating (possibly 4330 James Vincent Keating, returned to Australia 16 January 1919); 1600 Norman A McDougall (MM, killed in action 29 September 1918).

Photograph appears in an album compiled by 360 Sergeant Francis (Frank) Theodore Wilkinson, who served with the 31st Battalion during the First World War and in the Second World War.
