Description
Photographs relating to the service of 185 Corporal (Cpl) James Murgatroyd "Roy" Holgate, 30th Battalion. One photograph is a studio portrait of Cpl Holgate taken in Amiens, France, date unknown. The other is a group portrait of Cpl Holgate with an unknown Australian soldier and a french family he met in St-Valery-sur-Somme in 1917, Madame and Monsieur Prins and their daughters. The photograph was taken by Monsieur Prins and forwarded to Cpl Holgate by his wife Valentine Prins in subsequent correspondence. His letters to and from the french family are held in AWM collection AWM2016.380.1
