Collection related to 2784336 Signalman Stuart Lindsay Weller, 104 Signal Squadron, and his service in Vietnam between 1967 and 1968.
During 104 Signal Squadron's jungle training in Canungra, 36311 Staff Sergeant Francis Edward Barnes oversees an unknown serviceman doing push ups. One of 477 colour 35mm transparencies taken or collected by 2784336 Signalman (Sig) Stuart Lindsay Weller, 104 Signal Squadron, relating to his service in Vietnam between 1967 and 1968. Sig Weller explains the resaon for the push ups: "We were doing the sneaker ranges and this involved creeping into a small gully and squeezing off a few shots from an F1 sub-machine gun as targets appeared. The 'bad' thing to do in there was not to count your shots. You knew how many rounds you had in the magazine at the start and as you progressed you had to know how many rounds you had left so you knew when to stop, crouch and change the magazine. The last thing you wanted to hear as you began a burst of fire at a target was a dull 'click' as the bolt went forward to an empty chamber. Bad things followed as a result of that happening."
