Collection consists of a small diary presented to Major William Morrison by the citizens of Wangaratta on 26 March 1941. The diary contains names and addresses and a calendar of crossed-out dates (from February 1942 to June 1944), presumably marking some of the time he spent interned as a prisoner of war in Changi.

History / Summary

William Morrison was born in Wangaratta, Victoria, in 1895. Prior to his enlistment in the First World War, he served for five years in the militia, possibly in the 16 Light Horse. In the interwar period, Morrison served part time in the 8 Light Horse Regiment (from 1921 to 1940), where he rose to the rank of Major. In March 1941 he enlisted again for service in the Second World War, noting his occupatin as 'civil servant', and served with the 8 Military District New Guinea General Details Depot.
